CLASSICAL TO WORLD LANGUAGES
FACULTY LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE
The administrators of the University of Northern Iowa, the College of Education and the Malcolm Price Laboratory School were devoted to keeping the status and reputation of the Teacher Preparation program at UNI one of the best in the nation. To that end, professors at Malcolm Price Laboratory School were encouraged to bring attention to their teaching by participating in local, state, and national organizations in their respective disciplines. For many years travel money was available and long term substitutes were kept on staff. The faculty responded.
Through board memberships, holding offices, attending and presenting at state, regional, national and international meetings, editing news-letters, organizing conferences, contributing to publications and more, faculty both gained ideas for curriculum development and shared their work in their classrooms at PLS with colleagues. For instance, they were frequently called upon to demonstrate how to teach using new standards and ideas developed by the organizations. They were ambassadors for PLS and the University of Northern Iowa. The table below records the work of the Classical to World Languages faculty during the years 1970-2012.
